The purpose of the Braille assessment is to determine the
client’s abilities in using Braille as well as the level of Braille
training they will need in order to meet their goals. Whether the
client’s goal is to enter an academic/vocational program, find
employment, remain in the workforce or remain in their home, they will find
that being able to read and write Braille will provide them with a sense of
independence. Braille is used in public places for elevators and restrooms.
Braille is also useful in the home for marking appliances, labeling clothing,
for organizing personal items and personal papers, making notes, creating
grocery lists, etc. In the academic and workplace settings Braille can be used
for taking notes, logging phone messages, reading manuals and documents,
creating client lists with contact information, etc.
