In today’s society where computers are commonplace in the
home and used in nearly every job, strong keyboarding skills are valuable in
one’s residence and essential in the workforce. For someone who is
visually impaired or blind, being able to use a computer to send emails, read
their mail, keep personal records (such as a checkbook register), and write
letters provides them with a sense of independence and competency. Computer
keyboarding training is essential in order to be able to complete these tasks.
In this training the individual will learn how to locate all the keys on the
computer accurately without sight. In addition they will learn how to use the
proper keyboarding technique for typing documents. Emphasis in this training is
on accuracy and not on speed. The purpose is to have the client be able to accurately
locate the keys on the computer keyboard.
